ޗިލްޑްރަންސް އޮމްބަޑްސްޕަރސަންގެ މަޤާމަށް ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ ބޭފުޅަކު ޢައްޔަނުކުރައްވައިފި
President appoints Niumaath Shafeeq as Children’s Ombudsperson
In accordance with Article 113 of the Child Rights Protection Act, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today appointed Ms. Niumaath Shafeeg as the New Children’s Ombudsperson of the Maldives and was presented with her letter of appointment at a special ceremony held in the President’s Office.
Prior to her appointment as Children's ombudsperson, she was a consultant with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF). She has also worked as a part-time lecturer in several institutions of higher learning, in addition to volunteering and serving as chief commissioner of the Maldives Girl Guides Association. She previously served as the UNICEF National Consultant for the Health Protection Agency (HPA), and as an Education Development Officer Coordinator for the National Institute of Education.
Ms. Shafeeg has achieved an International Master’s in Early Childhood from Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Norway, Dublin Institute of Technology, and the University of Malta (2011-2013). Previously, she acquired a Bachelor of Early Childhood from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.
The Office of the Children's Ombudsperson is an independent body established under the Child Rights Act. The Children's Ombudsperson’s duties will include Monitoring all issues pertaining to children's rights and welfare and determining whether the government and the institutions under the government are abiding by the guidelines of the Child Rights Protection Act, to assess the compliance of government institutions with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to take all necessary steps to ensure compliance. In addition, in monitoring and evaluating child welfare agencies and staff, as well as investigating and communicating the actions.

ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ އިބްރާހީމް މުޙައްމަދު ޞާލިޙް، ޤާނޫނު ނަންބަރު 2019/19 (ކުޑަކުދިންގެ ޙައްޤުތައް ރައްކާތެރިކުރުމުގެ ޤާނޫނު) ގެ 113 ވަނަ މާއްދާގައިވާ ގޮތުގެމަތިން، ޗިލްޑްރަންސް އޮމްބަޑްސްޕަރސަންގެ މަޤާމަށް މާފަންނު މާފުށީގެ ނިޢުމާތު ޝަފީޤު ޢައްޔަނުކުރައްވައިފިއެވެ. އެކަމަނާއަށް މަޤާމުގެ ފަތްކޮޅު އެރުވުމުގެ ރަސްމިއްޔާތު ބާއްވަވާފައިވަނީ މިއަދު ހެނދުނު ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާގެ އޮފީހުގައެވެ.
ޗިލްޑްރަންސް އޮމްބަޑްސްޕަރސަންގެ މަޤާމަށް ޢައްޔަނުކުރެއްވުމުގެ ކުރިން އެކަމަނާ ހުންނެވީ ޔުނައިޓެޑް ނޭޝަންސް އިންޓަރނޭޝަނަލް ޗިލްޑްރަންސް އެމަރޖެންސީ ފަންޑް (ޔުނިސެފް) ގެ ކޮންސަލްޓަންޓެއްގެ މަޤާމުގައެވެ. އަދި، ވޮލެންޓިއަރކޮށް މޯލްޑިވްސް ގަރލް ގައިޑްސް އެސޯސިއޭޝަންގެ ޗީފް ކޮމިޝަނަރގެ މަޤާމު ފުރުއްވުމުގެ އިތުރުން އެ ކަމަނާ ވަނީ ޕާޓް-ޓައިމްކޮށް މަތީ ތަޢުލީމު އުނގަންނައިދޭ ބައެއް މުޢައްސަސާތަކުގައި ލެކްޗަރަރ އެއްގެ މަޤާމު ވެސް އަދާކުރައްވާފައެވެ.
ނިޢުމާތު ޝަފީޤަކީ އިންޓަނޭޝަނަލް މާސްޓަރ އިން އަރލީ ޗައިލްޑްހުޑް ހާސިލުކުރައްވާފައިވާ ބޭކަނބަލެކެވެ. މީގެ އިތުރުން، އެކަމަނާ ވަނީ އޮސްޓްރޭލިއާގެ ޔުނިވަރސިޓީ އޮފް ސަދަން ކުއީންސްލެންޑުން ބެޗެލަރ އޮފް އަރލީ ޗައިލްޑްހުޑް ހާސިލުކުރައްވާފައެވެ.
ޗިލްރަންސް އޮމްބަޑްސްޕަރސަންގެ އޮފީހަކީ، މި ޤާނޫނުގެ ދަށުން އުފައްދަވާފައިވާ މިނިވަން، މުސްޠަޤިއްލު އިދާރާއެކެވެ.
ޗިލްޑްރަންސް އޮމްބަޑްސްޕަރސަންގެ މަސްއޫލިއްޔަތުތަކުގެ ތެރޭގައި ހިމެނެނީ ދައުލަތުގެ އިދާރާތަކުން ޤާނޫނު ނަންބަރު 2019/19 (ކުޑަކުދިންގެ ޙައްޤުތައް ރައްކާތެރިކުރުމުގެ ޤާނޫނު) އަށް ޢަމަލުކުރާ މިންވަރު ދެނެގަނެ، މި ޤާނޫނު ތަންފީޒުކުރުމަށް ކުރަންޖެހޭ ކަންކަން ކުރުމަށް ބާރުއެޅުމާއި، ކުޑަކުދިންގެ ހައްޤުތައް ރައްކާތެރިކުރުމާބެހޭ މުޢާހަދާއާއި އެއްގޮތަށް ދައުލަތުގެ އިދާރާތަކުން އަމަލުކުރާ މިންވަރު ދެނެގަނެ، އެ މުޢާހަދާއާއި އެއްގޮތަށް ޢަމަލުކުރާކަން ކަށަވަރުކުރުމުގެ ގޮތުން ކުރަންޖެހޭ އެންމެހައި ކަންކަން ކުރުމާއި، ކުޑަކުދިންގެ ޙައްޤުތައް ރައްކާތެރިކޮށްދިނުމުގައި ހަރަކާތްތެރިވާ އިދާރާތަކާއި މުވައްޒަފުން މޮނިޓަރކޮށް އިވެލުއޭޓްކުރުމުގެ އިތުރުން ކުޑަކުދިންގެ ހައްޤުތައް ރައްކާތެރިކޮށްދިނުމުގައި ހަރަކާތްތެރިވާ އިދާރާތަކާއި މުވައްޒަފުންގެ ޢަމަލުތައް ތަޙުޤީޤުކޮށް މުޠާލިޢާކުރުމެވެ.
